How the 'Sequel Trilogy' Should Handle the New Jedi Order

Updated: Mar 11

I remember back in 2012, when Lucasfilm announced they were making new Star Wars movies, all I could think about was how I wanted to see the Jedi in full force in Lucasfilm's new Star Wars SEQUEL TRILOGY. I wanted them to be just like they were in the STAR WARS PREQUELS & STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS. Then it dawned on me, that's not the Jedi way. The PREQUEL TRILOGY and THE CLONE WARS showed us the Jedi in a time period where they are long removed from their true purpose.

It was hard for me to accept that the best part of Star Wars is literally showing us all the faults of a failing Jedi Order. Yes, I love seeing the Jedi fight and leading the clones into battle. I love when the Jedi clash with their enemies. But all of that is against the Jedi way. They are monks, thinkers, not soldiers.

The best Star Wars Trilogy (you know it's true)

I want to see a more religious take, when it comes to the Jedi created for the SEQUEL TRILOGY. Lucasfilm could make this work. We know from EPISODES I, II, & III, the Jedi aren't soldiers or warriors. They are monks, who meditate and study. Think back to the original Star Wars film back in 1977. Religion and Jedi are usually spoken about in the same sentence. They are viewed as a religion. Here are some quotes from STAR WARS:A NEW HOPE: "Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerer's ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient RELIGION has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the Rebel's hidden fort..." "Hokey RELIGIONS and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." "The Jedi are extinct, their fire has gone out of the universe. You, my friend, are all that's left of their RELIGION." Hell, Darth Vader Force chokes a guy over his faith. As much as I want to see some amazing Jedi warriors like the PREQUELS had, they had it wrong. The Jedi don't do that. Luke Skywalker tried to explain this to Rey, in THE LAST JEDI, but she didn't understand this. This could also be said about a lot of us who wanted to see Luke fighting and killing his enemies as the Clone Wars era Jedi once did. It is definitely time to let the past die, and the old legacy of the Jedi Order. Honestly, this was a small issue for me with the Expanded Universe/Legends brand. The EU's New Jedi Order still fought in wars, still had an allegiance with the government. As if they didn't learn from past mistakes.

Am I completely out of my mind? Let me know what you expect from the new Jedi, if we see them. May the Force be with you.
