Mando Spotlight: Death Watch

Updated: Mar 11, 2023

In this week's edition of Mando Spotlight, I will be discussing the Death Watch. The Death Watch made their first appearance in canon in the television series STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS.

Who are the Death Watch? The Death Watch are a Mandalorian splinter group, whose goal is to resurrect the warrior ways of Mandalore's past. The Death Watch live in a time where Mandalore's leading government has renounced violence and the warrior code of the past.

Symbol of the Death Watch:

The Death Watch mark is easily recognizable, and usually left after attacks orchestrated by the terrorist group.

Good or evil? Many outside of Death Watch's movement view them as thugs and terrorists who only want chaos and destruction. Death Watch members, on the other hand, believe they are honoring their heritage by following the warrior ways that have led to the near destruction of their home planet.

Death Watch's Inspiration: As seen in the in-universe artwork below, Mandalorian crusaders have long fought against the Jedi. Death Watch wishes to continue this fight, and many others.

You Need More Death Watch? You can follow Death Watch's story in episodes 12, 13, and 14 of season two of THE CLONE WARS; episode 14 of season four of THE CLONE WARS; episodes 14, 15, and 16 of season five of THE CLONE WARS. For comic book lovers, you can see Death Watch in the Dark Horse Comics series SON OF DATHOMIR. Check out the Death Watch's official entry in the Star Wars Databank here.
