Mando Spotlight: Death Watch

In this week's edition of Mando Spotlight, I will be discussing the Death Watch. The Death Watch made their first appearance in canon in the television series STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS. Who are the Death Watch? The Death Watch are a Mandalorian splinter group, whose goal is to resurrect the warrior ways of Mandalore's past. The Death Watch live in a time where Mandalore's leading government has renounced violence and the warrior code of the past. Symbol of the Death Watch: The Death Watch mark is easily recognizable, and usually left after attacks orchestrated by the terrorist group. Good or evil? Many outside of Death Watch's movement view them as thugs and terrorists who only want chaos an

Where Are They Now?: Rook Kast

Hello, fellow Star Wars fans. This is the start of a new series called Where Are They Now?, which will discuss characters we love, whose fates are unknown (as of right now). Starting the series off will be Rook Kast, the Mandalorian super commando from the Dark Horse Comics mini-series STAR WARS: DARTH MAUL: SON OF DATHOMIR. Major spoilers for the SON OF DATHOMIR to follow. Rook Kast makes her first appearance in Star Wars canon in SON OF DATHOMIR 1. This four part mini-series serves as an official continuation of the television series STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS. The comic series takes place in what would have been season 6, had the show not been cancelled. SON OF DATHOMIR 1 starts off with R

10 Favorite Lightsaber Duels

In today's Guru 10, I will share with you my current ten favorite lightsaber duels from Star Wars. This list isn't a ranking and will cover fights from the Star Wars films, THE CLONE WARS, and STAR WARS REBELS. 1. Pre Vizsla vs. Darth Maul (Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Shades of Reason) Maul and Pre's fight to decide the leader of Death Watch and Mandalore has to be on any list of favorite lightsaber duels. Finally getting to see a Mandalorian take on a Force-wielding warrior is something a lot of fans have wanted to see on screen. 2. Darth Tyranus vs. Obi-Wan, Anakin, & Yoda (Star Wars: Attack of the Clones) A character who is often overlooked by fans is Count Dooku. He's one of my favorite c

10 Characters I Want in Star Wars: Forces of Destiny

I want talk about STAR WARS: FORCES OF DESTINY. The show is a series of animated shorts that cover female characters from, so far, the Prequel era and Rebellion era. I enjoy the show, I really do. It's cute and entertaining, but the show needs to cover more characters. If they are going to keep with the female character theme, here are ten characters I would like Lucasfilm to cover in future shorts. 10. Doctor Aphra Doctor Aphra and her wild adventures make for the perfect episode of FORCES OF DESTINY. Give me a 2 to 3 minute short on this lady. Lucasfilm can hire Jessica Henwick to voice her. 9. Asajj Ventress Asajj Ventress is a no brainer, and I'm actually surprised we haven't seen her in

Mando Spotlight: The Protectors

In this article, I will be discussing the Mandalorian Protectors. They are also known as the Journeyman Protectors, or simply the Protectors. The Mandalorian Protectors serve as elite guards for the ruler of Mandalore. Think of them as like a kingsguard or queensguard. During the Clone Wars, the Protectors serve as royal bodyguards to the New Mandalorian leader, Duchess Satine Kryze. In season 3 of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, Satine goes on to state that the Protectors are "the only ones I can trust," showing that she has a great deal of trust in their loyalty. Some elements from their design in THE CLONE WARS have found their way into STAR WARS REBELS (as seen with the chest piece on Fenn Ra

More General Grievous, Please

A character that I would love for Lucasfilm to explore is General Grievous. Yea, I know we get a lot of him in STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS and we have his appearance in REVENGE OF THE SITH (not to mention the Legends brand stories), but I would love to know more about Grievous before he fought in the Clone War. We know a little about Grievous, thanks to the small bits we get in the television series THE CLONE WARS. We learned that at some point in his past, he chose to have cybernetic upgrades done to his body. This results in the cyborg that we see in THE CLONE WARS and REVENGE OF THE SITH. In season 1 of THE CLONE WARS, we visit the General's lair. Inside his home, we see statues of Grievous

Was the Rule of Two a Secret?

The RULE OF TWO is one of the most important aspects of the Sith, especially after the Sith's defeat during the fall of the Old Republic. Even before Darth Bane mandated that there could only be two Sith at a time, the Sith of old still operated under an idea of two; a master and an apprentice. The ancient Sith Temple on Malachor (seen in STAR WARS REBELS & Marvel's DARTH MAUL mini-series) had passages and lifts that took a master and apprentice to operate. It's important to note that Darth Bane's Rule of Two philosophy was discovered by the Jedi Order and other individuals. Yoda, Mace Windu, and Pre Vizsla talk about the Rule of Two as if it is common knowledge. "There's no doubt the myster

My Clone Wars Protest

As I watch STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS early in the A.M. on a Saturday morning, I began to think about the clone troopers and the fact that the Jedi just use them as objects, no different than the Separatist droids. Honestly, are the Jedi morally right for just leading the clones into battle? I think the Separatist did right to use droids instead of clones like the Republic. This is what I think about the Republic and the Jedi for their use of clones. I would first like to make it clear that if these clones had a choice in whether they wanted to join the military, I would not have a problem. It's different to use clones that have been created for the sole purpose of dying in a war that both si

10 Legends Brand Characters I'll Never Forget

In the past, the Expanded Universe (EU) had been my only doorway to Star Wars stories, since we were no longer getting any on screen. I had always cherished those stories and sometimes had even found them to be more captivating than what was in the Star Wars live-action films. Even though the EU is now re-branded as "Legends," I will never forget those stories and what they meant to me. So many characters I fell in love with, and I will cherish them forever. Out of the thousands of characters that make up the EU, these ten characters will forever stand out to me: VERGERE is of the Fosh species and was a former Jedi Knight, and secret apprentice to Darth Sidious. Can you imagine if she would

Tales of the Dark Side

Where are my fellow fans of the dark side of the Force? If that's you, this blog post is one I hope you enjoy (or hate). Arguably the most popular dark side faction are the Sith, but they are just one of several. Nightsisters, Knights of Ren, Acolytes of the Beyond, and the Inquisitorius are other dark side factions. Here's a brief run down on some of the galaxy's dark side organizations. SITH: The Sith are an ancient order of dark side users that have long been the enemy of the Jedi. In fact, the first Sith were Jedi. In Marvel's STAR WARS #9 (pictured below), we learn the Sith were once brothers in the Force with their fellow Jedi, until an event known as the Hundred-Year Darkness saw the

We Need a Darth Bane Film

A character that I want Lucasfilm to expand upon is Darth Bane. Darth Bane is known by fans as the creator of the Rule of Two. The character was created by George Lucas in the 1990s as part of his backstory for the STAR WARS PREQUEL TRILOGY. Darth Bane's first mention in Star Wars is in the novelization of THE PHANTOM MENACE, which is written by Terry Brooks and published in 1999. In Terry Brooks' memoir "Sometimes the Magic Works: Lessons from a Writing Life," he claims George Lucas spent an hour on the phone with him discussing the history of the Jedi and Sith for the Episode I novelization. Information on Darth Bane is brief in the novel for Episode I, but it is worth noting that they ref
